Is life coaching a philosophy? Life coaching is an experience. There’s nothing to believe. It’s an experience of becoming so “grokked” that the things that hold you back–and seem impossibly intractable–become resolvable and even transformed into energy that you can use to live a life more true to you.

The magic happens when someone is highly skilled at “seeing how you do you” and making it a win-win for all parts of yourself to update.

Is life coaching a religion? I love a whole lot about religion but where religion meets fear there can be some serious confusion and wounding.

What distinguishes life coaching from religion that has gotten confused by fear?

  • There’s nothing that must be believed here, only things to try out so that you can see for yourself what makes you, specifically and uniquely, more liberated–by YOUR definition.
  • Life coaching connects you with your deep, juicy, jammy self. There’s no outside authoritative know-er.
  • There’s no “right” and “wrong”. There’s only what’s right for you–and that will change over time. That said, I’ve never coached a client who doesn’t find that what’s right for them puts them in best service to the others and the world at large.
  • Life coaching isn’t afraid of not knowing. In fact, that’s where a ton of the magic arises from. There’s a whole lot of the freedom of truly sitting in this particularly exciting place of not knowing. Most people need help for their not-knowing to be really fruitful and life coaching is for that.
  • Your not-knowing is about to become your greatest life-infuser for Knowing. This is what I mean when I say this is for people with a disconnect between what they know and what they Know. We know we’ll feel better without that 3rd piece of cake… why did we just eat it? We know we are creatures of love and light… why did we just have a meltdown? And, most importantly, is there anything of value to be gotten from our cake-eating, meltdown monster?! YES! High value. And really deeply experiencing that is called Knowing. And that’s transformative. And that’s life coaching.

How is life coaching like the best parts of religion?

  • It loves you for who you are. It connects you to yourself as well as something bigger. It assists you to connecting to kindred others in a way that is both vulnerable and strong, open, loved and loving. It helps you become (even more of) a blessing to yourself and this dear world.

Is life coaching meditation? No. While meditation can be most excellent (I practice myself), my particular style of life coaching is extremely dedicated to teaching you to live from where you live, i.e. your “meat lump” (said with great love), i.e. your body.

Most of what hangs us up was learned long ago in relationship and therefore often needs to be healed in relationship and, especially, a specific kind of down-in/living-from-our-bodies relationship. This is a BIG factor in getting real change, and feeling like that real change is freeing us in the day-to-day of things on the physical plane.

Is life coaching a way of thinking? Yes! No! Sort of! Of utmost importance:

  • This is mostly not about thinking but about being guided to feel in a certain way so that your thinking automatically updates to something more and more self-, other- and Life-loving.
  • Any thoughts that you are invited to try on are, indeed, just for you to try on to see what happens. There’s nothing here that you have to think or believe in order for this to benefit you hugely.
  • Critically, all this feeling and thinking is facilitated in a way that will be wholly new to you. What gets us stuck and grumpy in life is when we can’t “jump the track” of our grooved thinking and feeling paths. A client recently told me that her very first session changed her whole life because it got her into such a different place than she’d ever been before. She couldn’t pull from her old way of being. She found bankable answers from an entirely new place of being–an innate, personal well of wisdom–and that was, to use her words “incredibly powerful”.

Most of all, life coaching is a YOU-guided, me-facilitated process of reclaiming yourself. If you want some of that, I look forward to hearing from you.
